La Patère Rose

Canada may be a country of two official languages but no Canadian can deny that it is also a country of linguistic and cultural duality. This division is for shame on English speaking Canada (myself included) as not only do we contribute to the further dissociation of French Canada, but we also miss out on their incredible contribution to the arts community. Sure there are loads of bands and artists that hail from French-speaking Canada, but the only ones that we really pay attention to are those that perform in English (Arcade Fire, God Speed! You Black Emperor etc). Naturally, I suppose this makes sense, but when it comes to music, shouldn't a songs ability to emote something within us eclipse the barrier of language? Hey, Glasvegas are a good band, but I haven't the slightest clue what they are saying and they are supposedly speaking English.

So we at SLICE are going to attempt to make a concerted effort at exposing some french language artitsts to our little community.

Today, we begin with La Patère Rose. Based in Montreal, the band is formed of Thomas Hébert aka Roboto (Keyboards and Sampler), Julien Harbec aka Kilojules (Beats and DJ) and Fanny Grosjean aka Fanny Bloom (Vocals and Pianist). They are an electro-pop group that met in 2003 at Sherbrooke CGEP and formed a band in 2005. They have since performed at Montreal's always eventuful Osheaga Festival in 2008 as well as the FrancoFolies de Montréal.

They will be performing at Francofolies de Spa in Belgium and will be touring Quebec upon their return.
